Baby Lucia

I'm starting to do baby portraits regularly again and loving every minute of it. Especially when I get shots like this next one. I love it. I only wish I had something like this of myself and my daughter. Unfortunately as the photographer I rarely get shots of myself. Not that I'm complaining. I am quite happy sitting behind the camera and not in front of it.

Once we got this shot I knew what we needed next, a matching set. So we produced this one. And now this is what my clients will be featuring as a focal point in their newly decorated lounge, side by side and extra large. Just how I intend my portraits to be viewed. The order goes in this week and I can't wait to see the finished product.

Here's a prime example of how my clients inspire me. Lucia turned up with a gorgeous pink tutu. The colour is so vibrant and made for some lovely portraits. Unfortunately Lucia is still a little too young and being unable to sit up made it hard to show off the tutu. So we're going to leave it a couple more months and have her return when she's a little order to capture the next stage in her life. I can't wait to photographer her again.

My Work Experience Week by Hester Sharpe

A week in the life of a Photographers assistant, is not all about saying cheese! I’m Hester Sharpe, currently at JCC but took a week out of normal school life on work experience to be a photographer’s assistant and learn the bits behind the camera, photograph and the process to get to the end result. During my week of work experience in photography I have learnt that there is a lot more than just taking the pictures and printing them. The steps in between are the key to getting the perfect photo. For example the photos have to be cropped, tweaked, edited, colour corrected. That is just a taste I have had in the processing of the photos and there is a lot more than just those things. Those processes are the most time consuming part of the photograph and a tremendous amount of detail is put in to the picture but all the hours spent are paid off with the end result; a perfect picture. Wedding Workshop in Nottingham

On Wednesday of this week I made the trek up to Nottingham (which wasn't actually much of a trek compared to most of the other delegates who travelled from as far as Glasgow, Portsmouth and South Wales) for a workshop held at Crash Taylor's home. Crash, a very talented photographer, specialising in weddings is someone I can highly recommend to anyone. Apart from spending the morning getting to know the other photographers we then spent the afternoon photographing a hired model, in her own wedding dress, as we wandered through Nottingham Castle. It provided me a chance to see how other photographers handled their weddings as well as a chance to experiment with equipment I haven't had a chance to play around with. Happy New Year Everyone!

Well again it has been a while since I last updated the blog. It was just crazy busy in the lead up to Christmas, with completing all outstanding orders and completing work on the studio. It is yet another New Year's resolution that I maintain this blog on a more regular basis. It is my goal that this year there will be no need for apologies for any lengthy absences. Since the completion of the studio I can already feel my life turning around. I feel happier, less stressed and much more organised, both personally and professionally. Our home is becoming a home again, now that all the photography gear has been moved out. And now I am able to store all my photography gear in one place it is making my life much simpler. I now know exactly where everything is and it is at my finger tips. What a difference this is making to my life. London in Spring, Whats Not to Love?

Well I know there is still a lot not to love but I'm choosing to see the great things about London at the moment. I am having a ball this year visiting London as often as I can. Which is unusual for me since I usually prefer the comfort of my own home, in rural old Leicestershire. Staying home and avoiding people has always been the easy option. But this year, possibly due to the wonderful weather we keep having, has me longing for venturing out. Again, just like my last trip, I headed out with my good friend Panikos Hajistilly . Living in North London he finds it easy to meet up for our shoots. This time though I had more of an idea of the sights I wanted to use as the backdrops for my portraits. Portraits of a Little Girl Named Ava

This time I got the pleasure of photographing a young girl. These images are still part of my current personal project. I am loving doing some work for myself. I feel a bit like I have my hobby back. Before I made the decision to be a photographer I worried that the thing I did to make myself happy and distract myself from day to day life would be lost forever. I didn't want this thing that made me happy to become a burden. Thankfully, for the most part, it hasn't. But sometimes it really helps to do some photography for me, so that the hobby part of photography is still there. I'm finding this project a great learning experience for me. With the pressure of pleasing a client gone I can relax and do what I need to do to create the portrait I want to create without fear of letting a client down for not having produced what they wanted.
