Hinckley Vintage Fair, All Over for Another Year

I love all things Vintage. I'm not sure where this comes from, whether it's the memories much of it evokes or just the sheer beauty of it all. I always find myself drawn to the old and often worn pieces. And don't get me started on wood. Wooden boxes, crates, trunks, and drawers all catch my eye. This is closely followed by leather satchels and then china teacups and saucers. I love it all.

So when my friend Kirsty mentioned that she needed a hand with the fair she had organised it was a no brainer. A chance to spend the day with my good friend and be able to shop amongst so much loveliness was an excellent way to spend a Sunday. It was even worth foregoing my Sunday lie in and I don't give those up for just anything.

While I was there I thought I'd also do what I do best, take photos. I shared what I could while I had the time on the day to entice people to come along. But I also thought I'd come back home and take a little more time preparing and sorting the photos from the day to include in both a blog post and an album on my Facebook page. Anyone there on the day is welcome to have any of these photos for their own uses so feel free to tag and share away.

Something I found really quite interesting was this young boy. I saw him engaging with the items on a stall and wondered what he was finding amusing. When I saw him leaving I asked if he'd enjoyed himself, assuming he'd been dragged along somewhat unwillingly. He surprised me with his response. He loved it. So I asked what about it he enjoyed. He loves the history that goes with these vintage pieces and he bought several vinyl records to play on his record player. How nice to see that things like this can still matter to the next generation.

As always the event was very well attended and feedback was all positive from what I heard while working on the door. Its a bit of a shame its only held once a year. I'll let you in on a little secret though, I've been doing a little encouraging with the organisers to see if they'd add a second event. Too many of such an event would make it less special, of course, but waiting a full year for the next one just seems like such a long time.

London in Spring, Whats Not to Love?

Well I know there is still a lot not to love but I'm choosing to see the great things about London at the moment. I am having a ball this year visiting London as often as I can. Which is unusual for me since I usually prefer the comfort of my own home, in rural old Leicestershire. Staying home and avoiding people has always been the easy option. But this year, possibly due to the wonderful weather we keep having, has me longing for venturing out. Again, just like my last trip, I headed out with my good friend Panikos Hajistilly . Portraits Even a Teenager Boy Loves

Finally I've had the opportunity to photograph a young man in my studio again. And funnily enough this was the second time that week which is absolutely superb. In both cases these young men were just as enthusiastic to be involved as I was, which is something I don't often get when I'm working with very young children, my usual subjects. With young children I find my energy in their cuteness. But with young adults I get energy from their excitement over how the portraits are working out. I get such a buzz from the experience and that can keep me going for hours, often editing the photos straight after the shoot for hours more. The Cuttest Little Creature (a baby Shih Tzu) I Ever Did See

I say creature, rather than dog, puppy or even animal only because as I looked through the images I had created on more than one occasion she looked like more like an animated character in a film than any dog I'd ever met. Weighing in at just over 4lbs she was little more than a ball of fur, adorable in every way. Once again my work day felt very little like work. I love creating pieces such as these and the bonus of puppy cuddles is simply wonderful. This one above is a particular favourite of mine. The scales are quite accurate so its nice to have a keepsake that includes just how small a new puppy is. This family will always have this as a reminder, not that this little on will grow particularly big. This image above is quite easy to create because puppies naturally try to climb out, yet they aren't big enough to get themselves out.
