More Exciting News! My First Exhibit is Being Held at the Atkins Building in Hinckley

From May 12th to June 2nd I'll be exhibiting my work at the Atkins Building in Hinckley.

This is something I've been wanting to do for sometime and with my recent success in acquiring my Fellowship I thought what better time than now. I'd like to share with everyone, particularly those involved, the beautiful images I was able to create with the help of so many people.

I've been fortunate enough to be allowed use of the entire space which means I will be filling it with as much of my work as I can afford to print and frame. So if you are in the market for portraits it will be a great opportunity to view up close the sort of portraiture I love to create.

I am really looking forward to being able to share my work with so many people. Running a studio from the back garden of my home doesn't make it easy to show off what I do. With so many people involved in last year's project of preparing a panel of 20 images for qualification it will be so nice to be able to show everyone the final results in print. Often the digital version just doesn't do it justice.

We will also be hosting a special Preview Night at the Cafe along side the exhibit on Friday May 15th starting at 7:30pm. It will be open to anyone who wishes to attend and I am hoping that all those involved with be there to see the wonderful work they helped to create.

I can't wait to see it all in place but for now I have a lot of work to do in order to get it all ready. I met with the council again today to discuss the details for the exhibit. I've got the layout of the space so I can start preparing the arrangement of the prints. And then its onto getting the frames made and finishing touches assembled. So much to do and so little time, isn't it always the way?

Winner of the Master Photographers Association's UK Family Portrait Award

This year for the first time I decided to join the MPA (Master Photographers Association). As a qualified member this entitled me to compete amongst other professionals throughout the UK. Last night the awards ceremony was held at the Hinckley Island Hotel (amazingly close to home for a change) where I received the news that my family portrait won its category. I am over the moon that it was a unanimous decision from all judges who felt it stood out against all others in the category making it the clear winner. And to have John Stoddart, a man who has photographed a great number of A list celebrities, present the award telling me this is a fantastic image was the icing on the cake. Meet Leo. Leo is 15 and currently going through an epic transformation that has momentarily turned the lives of himself and those around him upside down. A mum who once had the daughter she always longed for is now coping with the realisation that she will be living the rest of her life with a son instead. When your child is born you have certain expectations of the typical life they will lead but most of us know and accept that it won't necessarily end up the way we imagine. Not every person wants to marry, have kids or be involved with the opposite sex. Most of us have come to accept this and can adjust to whatever comes our way relatively easily. Its a Dog's Life

When life gets tough I always look at dogs or my cats and think how lucky they are. I know not all are treated well but those lucky enough to be in a good home, like the ones who come into my studio, have a really great life. They look so happy and its a wonderful thing to see. I honestly love photographing dogs. They are a joy to work with and its almost impossible to produce a bad portrait of a dog which does of course make my life a little easier. I am someone who really needs to love the work I create. I can't help but love the portraits I've created of all the dogs I've photographed over the years. And this shoot was certainly no exception. I found it a real pleasure using a lighter background this time too. I do often gravitate towards darker looks but seeing as this dog had a light coloured coat I thought I'd produce lighter images. Headshot requests are becoming more frequent so I thought I'd put together a post to share some recent work and explain the packages I offer in greater detail. Teen Portraits - Prom Season is Just Around the Corner

If your child is heading to prom in the next couple of months I'd say there is probably no better time than now to have portraits created of your growing teen. With the purchase of a new (and probably expensive) outfit wouldn't it be nice to capture this milestone with a portrait created by a professional. Across the pond this is a hugely popular time to create portraits, and although I am not American (I'm Canadian) I wholeheartedly agree that this is a special moment to record. My prom was a key memory in my teen years and in fact I myself had professional portraits created also. I think I'll go dig them up if I can, though admittedly I think my mother has them back in Canada. I wonder if I can get her to scan one for me.
