My New Favourite Frame

In searching for a dark wood moulding for a client a while back I came across one I loved but have waited until I had the perfect image for it before I used it. And finally I found one. Amazingly, although somewhat intentionally, its of my daughter. I have been trying for years (since I began really) to produce an image of her I loved which could be used as a sample in my studio.

I am so pleased with the image and seeing the finished product presented this way has been wonderful. I regularly stop and stare at it hanging on my wall. Its everything I wanted it to be and is going to be a cherished item for me for the rest of my life. She has been taking dance lessons since she was 2 (she is now 8) and its something she loves more than anything.

My framer, Jo from The Frame Game, did a fantastic job as she always does. Her attention to detail is superb. And the mix of fine art print and thick conservation grade double mount all set behind high quality low reflection glass surrounded by this stunning, rich wood moulding make this piece resemble something you might find in an art gallery. In fact, when I walked into her shop to pick it up and saw it amongst the art Jo sells I didn't think it looked out of place at all. It would have sat very well on her walls with the other pieces.

Now I know I am a little biased as this is my daughter, but I really do believe this would make a wonderful momento for anyone who's child dances. Its something that will last a lifetime and never go out of fashion.

London in Spring, Whats Not to Love?

Well I know there is still a lot not to love but I'm choosing to see the great things about London at the moment. I am having a ball this year visiting London as often as I can. Which is unusual for me since I usually prefer the comfort of my own home, in rural old Leicestershire. Staying home and avoiding people has always been the easy option. Its a Dog's Life

When life gets tough I always look at dogs or my cats and think how lucky they are. I know not all are treated well but those lucky enough to be in a good home, like the ones who come into my studio, have a really great life. They look so happy and its a wonderful thing to see. I honestly love photographing dogs. They are a joy to work with and its almost impossible to produce a bad portrait of a dog which does of course make my life a little easier. I am someone who really needs to love the work I create. I can't help but love the portraits I've created of all the dogs I've photographed over the years. And this shoot was certainly no exception. I found it a real pleasure using a lighter background this time too. I do often gravitate towards darker looks but seeing as this dog had a light coloured coat I thought I'd produce lighter images.
